The Global financial crisis has been described as the worst financial crisis after the Great Depression of the 1930’s. This was a Financial Crisis and affected terribly the banks of the United States of America. The banks during this time had low capital base and suffered from a serious liquidity crunch. Leveraging was very common at this time. This increased financial instability of the banks called for major changes in the financial regulations by the government. This essay will discuss the Origin of the Global financial crisis of 2008-10 and its impact on the financial health of the institutions. The main reason of the Global financial crisis was primarily Sub-Prime mortgages by the banks. The major U.S banks were involved in†¦show more content†¦The banks were affected terribly as the borrowers were unable to repay the amount loaned out to them to buy these real-estate properties. Also, the poor collaterals were there, so this made sure banks were not able to recover their money back. A lot of Foreclosures and evictions were observed. Also, many of these Sub-Prime mortgages were packaged into another financial instrument called as ‘Mortgage-backed Securities’ which were falsely given good credit ratings by the rating agencies and sold out as been risk free. These Mortgage backed securities ultimately defaulted, contributing to greater loss. During this time, the banks were robed out of any liquidity. BNP Paribas, a major bank of U.S had to sell its hedge funds to get in some cash. Excessive risk taking by these banks robbed the capital out of the system. Many major banks failed at this time. Even, the banks which were given the status of ‘Too Big to Fail’ also witnessed a major collapse, ruining the financial health of the institutions. Furthermore, the Federal Reserve too granted loans and aid packages to bail-out these banks, which led to magnify the world financial system and the health of the U.S economy. Writers can make suggestions or to try to change something about a society or simply to poke fun or satirize a part of a culture. Often these writings are aimed at a specific group of people. In the case of Jonathan Swift in Gulliver’s Travels and Voltaire in Candide, their writing is aimed at European society and its preoccupation with materialism. Swift and Voltaire satirize the behaviors of the wealthy upper class by citing two different extremes. In Gulliver’s Travels the yahoos are not even human but they behave the same way towards colored stones that the Europeans do. In contrast, the people of El Dorado do not care at all about the gold and jewels that align their streets. The writers are hoping that perhaps the reader will†¦show more content†¦When Candide and his companion Cacambo arrive in El Dorado they see the streets covered in gold and other expensive jewels. Seeing a child playing with these jewels Candide assumes that the child is royalt y. Candide and Cacambo come to know and are surprised that the people of El Dorado throw such â€Å"important† items down on the street as common pebbles. When they are ready to leave the city, they ask to take some of the gold and jewels off the road and imagine â€Å"more treasure than every the King of Spain will be possessed of† (346). The King is very surprised but obliges their request: â€Å"I cannot imagine what pleasure you Europeans find in our yellow clay; but take away as much of it as you will, and much good may it do you† (345). In El Dorado all people have their needs met, whereas the Europeans believe they need gold to define many aspects of their lives. In Europe, money determines one’s place in society and gives people worth and rights; without money it is difficult to get a meal and a place to sleep, let alone to fulfill one’s goals in life. In Gulliver’s Travels the yahoos hoarded food and fought to possess it all. In El Dorado the people give food freely without any expectations of payment. Candide and Cacambo are strangers; yet they are welcomed into an inn and immediately given a hearty meal without any hesitation (341). Holden acts like a careless teenager. Holden has been to several prep-schools, all of which he got kicked out of for failing classes. After being kicked out of the latest, Pency Prep, he went off to New York on his own. Holden seems to have a motivation problem which apparently affects his reasoning. The basis of his reasoning comes from his thoughts. Holden thinks the world is full of a bunch of phonies. All his toughs about people he meets are negative. The only good thoughts he has are about his sister Phoebe and his dead brother Alley. Holden, perhaps, wishes that everyone, including himself, should be like his brother and sister. That is to be intelligent, real and loving. Holdens problem is with his heart. It was broken when his brother died. Now Holden goes around the world as his fake self, wearing his mask. Holden is looking for love, peace and understanding. He is scared to love because he is afraid he might lose it like he did with his brother. That is the reason for Holdens love of the museum, he feels safe because it never changes it always stays the same. Holden is troubled with the pain of death, it effects every aspect of his life causing him to not care about the future, himself or anyone, except Phoebe and Alley. The theme of alienation is demonstrated by Holden. He alienates himself from the world because he fears change and false people, he wants love and security. Holden alienates himself from all the changes that occur around him. Holden isolated himself when he didnt go down to the seats for the final football game at Pency. He isolates himself because he gets kicked out of all the schools he goes to. All those changes scare Holden off, he becomes afraid to feel secure. Holden also alienates himself because he trusts no one, he thinks everybody is phony. When Holden was in a bar and he lied and said he had to go, just to not talk to his brothers old girl friend; Holden thought she was annoying and left the bar even though he didnt feel like it. Holden is also alienated by his inability to love. Holden seems not to care about his old girlfriend Sally, he told her he loved her but he didnt mean it. He told her she was a pain in the butt; he had complete disregard for Sally feelings, he jus t walked away to do something else. Holdens fears and insecurities can be traced back to the death of his brother Alley. All of his repressed feelings about his brother exert an influence upon Holdens actions. He cant trust or love anything or anyone because he is afraid that they will die and leave him tormented and vulnerable. Salinger is trying to show the reader the confusion anger and frustration of loosing a loved one, and how it can effect a persons life. Salinger is saying that a person needs reciprocal love to be happy and healthy. Holden is miserable because he lost his brother whom he loved very much. When Alley died Holden smashed up the windows in the garage so bad that even years later he still cant make a good fist. Maybe Holdens ability to love was taken away along with his brother. Without Holden having a healthy relationship with love going back and forth he becomes an emotionless heap of flesh with no direction or motivation. The author is illustrating his version of hell. Hell to the author is being surrounded by phonies and not being able to care.
